curie Metro.
A non-SI unit that is used in particle physics to measure the activity (number of disintegration per second) of a radioactive source. It has a symbol Ci, and named after Marie Curie (1867-1934). 1 Ci = 3.7 x 1010 disintegration per second, which is equivalent to the
activity of 1 g of radium. See also becquerel.
Curie temperature Phys.
For a ferromagnetic material, the critical temperature above which the material become paramagnetic, dur to thermal agitation that causes the electron spins to mis-align. For instance, the Curie temperature
for iron is 1043 K. Also applied to the temperature at which the spontaneous polarization dissappear in a ferroelectric solid.
