DMA channel Comp.
Abbreviation for direct memory access channel. A method that transfers information directly from a device (such as a mass storage device such as CD-ROM, hard disk) into memory without going
through the microprocessor. Such information passing is fast compare with other methods.
DNS Comp.
The acronym for Domain Name Server or Domain Name System. It is a hierarchy of special-purpose computer server that contains database of Internet domain names and host names with the
corresponding IP address. When a user, say through a web browser, requests for a web site, it first contacts the nearest DNS to determine the web site's IP address. If the DNS does not contain
the needed information, it will pass the request to another DNS at the higher level in the hierarchy until the IP address is resolved. The DNS facilitates memorizing of a net address by referring to a name
instead of their actual IP address which consists of 4-series numbers (for example, 130.88.97.77).
