exoplanet Astron., Space
A planet in orbit around a star other than the Sun. Also called extrasolar planet. Until the year 2005, there are more than 150 exoplanets have been discovered. Most of these are indirectly observed by measuring the tiny fluctuation of the brightness of the host star as the planet passed behind or in front of it.

exothermic Chem.
A chemical reaction that gives out heat into its surrounding. Most chemical reaction occur in this way, leading to the increase in temperature to its surrounding.

expectation value Math.
An average value derived from an infinite series (or approaching infinity) of experimental measurement or observations of a random variable. Mathematically, it is defined as the sum of the products of all possible values and the corresponding probability of that value.
