osmiridium Miner.
A naturally occurring alloy of osmium (~30%) and iridium (~50%) with the remaining consists of mostly ruthenium (~6%) and platinum (~10%). It is lustrous white in color, hard (6-7) and is used for the tips of pen-nibs.

osmosis Chem., Biol.
The process in which solvent molecules travel across a semipermeable membrane separating two solutions of different concentrations. The membrane has pore sizes such that they allow easy passage for solvent molecules but not larger solute molecules. Therefore there is a tendency for a net flow of solvent molecules from the solution of weaker concentration to the stronger solution until equal concentration is achieved.

overclock Comp.
Techniques used to increase the speed of a computer processor (CPU) from the manufacture's default-set value. The CPU speed can be measured in terms of the number of operations that can happen in a second and is in units of frequency of megahertz (MHz) or gigahertz (GHz). Overclocking increases the working frequency of the processor. However, when a processor is overclocked, more heat is generated and adequate cooling mechanism is require to ensure stable working of the processor. Even then, stable working configuration of an overclocked processor may not be guaranteed and may shorten the life of the processor.

overexpress Biol., Med.
Production of too many copies of a protein or some substances. It is thought that excessive production of certain proteins may lead to cancer.
