OW - OZ
ozone layer Meteor.
A layer of the Earth's atmosphere in which most of the atmosphere's ozone concentration is found. It is located in the stratosphere, 10-50 km above the Earth's surface. Ozone (O3)
plays an important part in absorbing harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the Sun. Consequently, a rise in temperature prevent vertical mixing so that it forms a stable layer in stratosphere.
Depletion of such layer is thought to be due to human activities such as release of CFC man-made gases that destroy ozone. This may cause an increase in UV exposure to living organisms on Earth and
an increase in skin diseases and cancer on human.
