panspersmia Space
The theoretical idea that the origin of life on earth is seeded from outer space. For instance, comet and meteorite that carried components of life landed on earth and subsequently evolved under certain conditions to form life on earth. The original idea was conceived by Anaxagoras (500 BC - 428 BC), a Greek philosopher that the seed of life is ubiquitous throughout the universe. However, it was only until recently that it is accepted as a possible scientific hypotheses.

pasteurization Food Sci.
The process of heating milk to a certain temperature over certain time to kill pathogens such as bacteria and parasitic organisms that may be harmful to humans. Exact heating conditions may vary according to different regulations. For example, 63C for at least 30minutes or 72C for at least 16 seconds. Nowadays, pasteurization can also be carried out by means of low radiation doses of gamma rays, x-rays etc.

pathogen Bio.
An organism such as parasite, bacterium, virus, which causes disease. For example, the malaria disease is caused by the parasite species of plasmodium.
