pyrite Min.
A mineral of iron sulfide (FeS2) with a shiny, brassy luster. It is commonly referred to as 'fool's gold' because of its superficial resemblance in appearance to gold. However, pyrite is a
very common mineral, with a hardness of 6.5, and can be found in almost anywhere in the Earth's crust. It is mined, in small scale, to produce sulfuric acid.
pyrolysis Chem.
Decomposition of a substance as a result of high temperature. The nature of substance is completely altered since pyrolysis is a chemical process involving breaking
of chemical bonds. This is in contrast to physical vaporization of a substance, which upon cooling, identical substance may be recovered (physical process).
