slaked lime Chem.
Also known as hydrated lime or common name for calcium hydroxide. It is formed by adding water to quicklime (calcium oxide). It is a white crystalline powder slightly
soluble in water to give a clear weak alkaline solution called lime water. The solution is commonly used to test for the presence of carbon dioxide which gives a white precipitate
of calcium carbonate. Slaked lime is also used in sugar refining, mortar, plaster and soil treatment.
