temperory hardness Chem.
The hardness of water which can be removed by boiling. Such waters usually contain soluble calcium or magnesium bicarbonate. Upon boiling, the bicarbonates release carbon dioxide
and less soluble calcium/magnesium carbonates precipitate out which subsequently can be removed.
termination shock Astron.
The boundary where the solar wind and interstellar winds interact and defines the boundary of the heliosphere and the heliosheath.
This is the boundary where the solar winds begin to slow down due to the interaction with the on-coming interstellar (deep space) matter. The NASA-launched spacecraft Voyager 1 is thought
to have cross the termination shock on August 2002 at a distance of about 85 AU from the Sun.
terraform Space, Ecol.
A technical and theoretical concept of making a planet habitable to human life by manipulating its environment, geological features and atmosphere. Such a process may involve
introducing gases, genetically engineered plants, organisms etc. The whole process may take tens of thousand of years to complete.
