WAN Comp.
Abbreviation for Wide Area Netwrok, it is a collection of two or more LANs. These different LANs are usually connected through phone lines via the Internet. Other more expansive connections are through radio transmission or satellite.

washing soda Chem.
Common name for sodium carbonate decahydrate. So called due to its ability to 'soften' hard water by interactions of calcium and magnesium ions contained in hard water to form carbonate precipitates.

water glass Chem.
Common name for sodium silicate (Na2SiO3). It is a white powder when fine and dry but easily solidify and appear as a transparent, glass-like substance. It is soluble in water to give a colorless solution. It forms insoluble silicate salts with a wide range of metal ions such as copper, magnesium, cobolt, etc. It is used for preserving eggs, fireproofing materials and in the manufacturing of soap, silica gel and timber.
